Until recently I didn’t draw that much in detail. For example, I didn’t draw individual roof tiles and rain gutter with inclination (if it’s horizontal, actually it should not work…). But after renovating 100-yr old machiya with non-traditional roof tiles (as the traditional ones were too heavy to put the solar panel on the back yard side, and the price was bit too much), I start to pay more attention to the real traditional tiles – how the artisan put it by hand one by one. Hope I can understand more and reflect my understanding on to the drawing.

最近まで、瓦や雨樋（とい）はさささっと描いてしまっていました。でも、町家の改修工事に立ち会ってから（そして結局、本当に伝統的な瓦は、値段と重量から諦めたこともあり→出来るだけ地震の時に安全にしたかったのと、坪庭側に小さくでもソーラーパネルをつけたかったので）、屋根の細部に目が行くようになりました。そうすると、雨樋を水平に屋根に取り付けたかのように描いていたら意味がない気もしたり、瓦もちゃんと描かないと安いスレートに見えてきたり。まだまだ理解不足だけれど、もう少しよく観察したいです。
